Palacios de Altamira & Mañara

Discover the most hidden and unknown palaces of Seville: Palacio de Altamira and Palacio de Mañara. These house offices of the Andalusian government, that’s why they aren’t open to public access everyday and the whole buildings aren’t available to visit. A joint guided Spanish tour is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 am.

Two different styles reveal the history of these palaces located in the Jewish quarter. The Palacio de Altamira dates from the Almohad period (14th century) and its different owners changed its configuration along the years. However, it never lost its Arabic and Moorish reminiscences: a central patio or the qubba (the royal room) are some of this examples. A small on-site museum with relics that reveal the daily life in the palace is a must (from the 14th century to the 19th century, when the palace was used as a communal neighbours house.

The Palacio de Mañara is located in the heart of the Jewish quarter and it was built in the 15th century over Islamic ruins. It was changed into a Mudejar House and then adapted to the Renaissance style. The wealth of the Golden Age of Seville is noticeable in its marbles, fountain, majestic stairs and decoration.

Come and visit these two palaces, a perfect alternative off the beaten track!
